We made a Matariki star. We used our algebraic thinking. We had a pattern to follow: 1,2 and down 1 up we repeated this pattern until we got the star.

Matariki celebration

Manu tukutuku

IMG_0925.JPG
Matariki happens in June it happens in the first week.  We celebrate Matariki by doing nice things like playing with knucklebones,  doing pukana challenges and making kites.   Matariki is a special celebration.  Matariki are the  seven stars or seven sisters.   We made kites because it was a Matariki celebration and it's a māori new year.

We made kites and this is how we made them.  We made kites out of flax, wool, toetoe, and a roller.  We measured the toetoe with a roller and it was 117 cm long.   Then we had to do a speech for miss hills to video.  We instructed Miss Hills to cut the toetoe into three groups so we can do our kite.  We started getting wool to tie up the toetoe so it can stay still. We had to go over and under for it to stick we spread the toetoe out so we can tie it.  I was holding the sides of the toetoe so Sonia can tie it up. Then we got more wool and measured it with a roller so we know where to cut it.  Then we used our fingers to criss cross and go under all the way to the top.  We had to do it three times because we had three sticks sticking out.    We had to do it three times to stick the flax on then Miss Hills cut out a triangle to stick and do our patterns on.  We used the hot glue gun to stick on the kite.  The hardest  part was when we tied it up and the easiest part was when we drew our patterns and stuck it on.

NZ opera T1

Jax´s fish ´n´ chips

Purpose: Thank you note.

Dear jax

Thank you for coming to our school and performing opera.

My most favorite part was when you were talking singing.  I really liked it when Nemo was laughing.  The singers were cool and funny.  I really liked it when the famous guy came out in a armour,

I would like to see you dance, talk and sing again.

Yours sincerely

whanaungatanga art

Over term 1 i have been learning about my mihi, identity, whanaungatanga,,and  manaakitanga.
Manaakitanga are the steps to whanaungatanga.
Whanaungatanga means sharing and being
friends with people and another thing like kindness.

I used pastels to colour in my art work.  And for the big black gaps i have done some patterns so it stands out more.

As you can see my big artwork has 6 korus,a pattern i did for fun,a turtle, and my name in block letters.

The 6 korus represents my family.  The 2 big korus are my mum and dad and the 4 small korus are me my brother and my 2 sisters.

There are turtles in samoa that's why I have drawn a turtle.

On the outside of my artwork it has patterns on it. It  has more green than other colours because i like the colour green.

Book

Easy Blog Photo
These two books are about staying alive in a cave.    The second book is about spiders.  The book on the left is rotten by Joseph monninger.  And the book on the right is rotten by Jack heath.  We get free books every year so we can read it at home or at school.  The book on the right is about spiders in a army.  I like scream because of the colours. The book on the left is about if your in a building and a earthquake is happening stay alive.  Go to the center of the room and and take a position underneath some thing.

How to weave a box.

  • Scissors
  • Sellotape
  • Ruler
  • Pencil/pen

  1. Gather all your equipment so you are ready to start.
  2. Rule 10 strips of paper with your pencil 1cm wide and 30 cm long
  3. Cut out  10 strips.
  4. Place 5 strips  of paper on the mat or on your table next to each other about 2cm
    width apart.
  5. Grab a strip and weave it over and under on the mat.
  6. When you are finished step 6 push the strips in together so it meets up and makes a square.
  7. After step 7 use a sellotape to tape down your square.
    .
  8. Fold your strips to rule a line on the edge of the square.
  9. After you have lined on the edge of your square cut on the lines to make it shorter.
  10. After that use your paper to cut out 4 more strips.
  11. For the last step use step 6 and weave over and under but make sure you're going up.
